What class do I need to take?

Figuring out what class you need to take can be confusing and frustrating.  While we always recommend getting the exact class you need from your employer or organization, this guide will help you choose the appropriate class.  Please feel free to call us with any questions.

Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED

The AHA’s Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements, or anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. This Heartsaver class includes the first aid portion, as well as CPR AED. First aid is not always required for all organizations.  It's always best to check with your employer or organization to see if first aid is required.  When in doubt, include first aid.  This is an in-person class.

  • Caregivers (This is the ARC required course)

  • Lifeguards

  • Educators

  • Coaches

  • Fitness instructors

  • Security guards

  • Camp counselors

  • Manfacturing, construction, electricians, distribution, etc.

Heartsaver CPR AED

The AHA Heartsaver CPR AED Course is designed for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements.  This class includes CPR AED training only.  It does NOT include First Aid.  This is an in-person class.

  • Educators / teachers / coaches

  • Emergency response (EMS) / Law enforcement and fire personnel

  • Airline staff

  • Lifeguards / athletic or personal trainers

  • Retail / restaurant / hospitality staff

  • Individuals requiring certification

  • Construction workers

  • Office workers

  • Anyone from the general public wishing to know how to perform CPR, use an AED, and be trained on a broad range of First Aid topics.

Heartsaver First Aid

The AHA Heartsaver First Aid Course is designed for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in first aid to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements.  This class is typically included in the Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED class.  However, it can be taken alone or with the BLS for Providers class.

BLS for Providers (Basic Life Support)

The AHA’s BLS Course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.  This is an in-person class.

  • Doctors

  • Nurses

  • CNAs /GNAs

  • Dentists / Dental Assistants / Dental Hygienists

  • Medical Assistants

  • All students in a healthcare major

  • Respiratory Therapists

  • All other hospital staff

  • Anyone in healthcare

BLS Renewal

The AHA’s BLS Course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.  This is an in-person class.

  • Per AHA guidelines, this class is for students that hold a current BLS certification and need to renew.
